Aussie winning the Junior Europa Cup Final (2 consecutive years)
Mark Chong, from The Western Flames Ice Racing Club, had won the Junior Europa Cup Final 2013 and had successfully defended his Champion Title from 2012. Mark had also achieved a PB and set a new Australian Overseas Sub-Junior record for 500m with 43.652 second in the Italian Championships held in Bormio in late March. He had also set 3 other Overseas sub junior records in 777m, 1000m and 1500m. What a great way to finish the 2012/2013 season. Congratulations to Mark for a very successful year of racing!
Australia’s first ever medal in World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships
Congratulations to our National Coach, Ann Zhang, and all our skaters who competed in the World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Sochi last weekend. They have achieved the following amazing results:
Deanna Lockett – Bronze medal in 1500m, and ranked 4th overall in the competition
Pierre Boda - 13th in the 1000 metres and ranked 18th overall
Armstrong Lazenby – ranked 30th place overall
Nate Henry – ranked 37th place overall
Pierre and Deanna will now join Julie Jung at the World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Hungary on Mar 8 – 10.

Short Track Speed Skating
Congratulations to all our skaters who had competed in World Cup 5 (Sochi) and 6 (Dresden) with more Personal Bests being achieved:
Deanna Lockett – PB in 1000m and 1500m at Sochi
Julie Jung – PB in 500m at Sochi
Pierre Boda – PB in 1500m at Dresden
Armstrong Lazenby – PB in 500m at Sochi, 1000m and 1500m at Dresden
Speed Skating
We’ve also had fantastic results from our speed skater:
Daniel Greig – PB 500m at Salt Lake city at the World Sprint Championships 2013 and PB 1000m at the World Cup in Calgary
Great results from Aussies in International events
Both our long track and short track teams have been doing very well in the recent World Cup events, achieving personal bests!
Short Track, World Cup 4 in Shanghai:
Deanna Lockett – 4th in 1000m and 14th in 1500m
Julie Jung – 10th in 1000m and 18th in 500m
Pierre Boda – 12th in 1000m
Long track, World Cup in Harbin:
Daniel Greig – 9th in Divison A, 500m with his season’s best of 35.53 and 12th in Divison A, 1000m
Some of our juniors have also competed in the Star Class events in Europe and achieved great results:
Mark Chong – ranking No. 1 for Star Class 1 in Italy and also No. 1 for Star Class 2 in Munich
Keanu Blunden – ranking 8th in Star Class 2 in Munich

Great results from World Cup 3
Congratulations to Ann Zhang and the national team for a very successful World Cup over the weekend in Nagoya! The team has achieved 4 top 15 rankings in the following distances. Well done and keep up with the good work at World Cup 4 in Shanghai.
Deanna Lockett– 5th in 1500m(1) and 13th in the 1500m(2)
Julie Jung – 14th in 500m
Nate Henry – 12th in 1500m(1)
World Cup 3 & 4 – Nagoya and Shanghai
The AIR board would like to welcome Alix Myra Anderson on the National team to represent Australia in the upcoming World Cup 3 in Nagoya (Nov 30 to Dec 2) and World Cup 4 in Shanghai (Dec 7 to Dec 9). It is with regret that Lachlan Hay will not be competing in the next 2 World Cups due to illness. We wish the team all the best for the competitions.
Short Track Speed Skating National Team announcement
The AIR board would like to congratulate the following athletes upon their selection to the Short Track Speed Skating National Team:
Lachlan Hay, Pierre Boda, Nate Henry, Ronnie Caldecutt, Armstrong Lazenby (R), Julie Jung and Deanna Lockett
They will be representing Australia in the following Samsung ISU Short Track World cup events:
- World Cup 1, Calgary, Canada – 19 to 21 Oct, 2012
- World Cup 2, Montreal, Canada – 26 to 28 Oct, 2012
- World Cup 3, Nagoya, Japan – 30 Nov to 2 Dec, 2012
- World Cup 4, Shanghai, China – 7 to 9 Dec, 2012

Annual Club Memberships are now due. All skaters (except OSF members) wishing to renew their memberships can do so by clicking the link: Annual Membership Renewals
If you wish to renew an Olympic Southern Flyers membership, please see a member of the OSF committee to arrange payment.
NOTE: Final membership approval is subject to each individual club’s membership approval rules. Completion of online payment does not ensure that a membership will be accepted and each club has the right to refuse a member under their Member Protection Policy.
