Brendan Corey is Australia’s leading short track speed skater and will be the sole competitor for ice racing at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick (Canada), Brendan first laced up skates at age eight and soon transitioned from ice hockey to the speed and precision of short track. Now aged 29, Brendan represents Australian Ice Racing on the world stage, training with international squads and competing at the highest level. 

Olympic History & Events

Brendan made his Olympic debut at Beijing 2022, where he set an Australian record in the Men’s 1000 m and advanced to the quarter-finals, placing 15th overall, and also delivered personal best performances in the 500 m. At Milano Cortina 2026, Brendan will compete in all three individual short track distances:

• Men’s 500 m — Heats 16^th February 9.17pm AEDT
• Men’s 1000 m — Heats 10^th February 9.10pm AEDT
• Men’s 1500 m — Quarterfinals 15^th February 6.15am AEDT

Brendan’s international profile has risen steadily on the ISU World Cup and championship circuit. He has recorded multiple top-10 World Cup results and became the first Australian in decades to win an individual World Championship medal, claiming bronze in the 1500 m at the 2024 World Championships — a landmark achievement for Australia in short track speed skating. 

Training extensively in Europe — including with the Italian national team over the past two seasons, Brendan arrives in Milano Cortina confident and focused, seeing this Games as an opportunity to convert experience into Olympic success.
